MARS HILL, Maine — Two teams and two individuals from the Aroostook League have qualified for next month’s state golf championships.
The Aroostook League Championships were held at Mars Hill Country Club Monday, Sept. 18, featuring 17 golfers representing four schools.
The host Central Aroostook Panthers ended up with a stroke total of 387 to take first place in the team results. Hodgdon followed with 456 strokes. Both CA and Hodgdon will represent Aroostook County at the Class C state team championships Oct. 7 at Natanis Golf Club in Vassalboro.
Boys shooting a 90 or better and girls shooting a 100 or better also qualified for the individual state championships, to be held Oct. 14, also at Natanis. Only two players hit the qualifying standard and both are from the Panthers. Shane Stackpole carded an 81, while teammate Isabelle Wright shot a 98.
Also for victorious Central Aroostook, Tyson Cyr shot a 98 and Stetson Nicholas a 100.
Hodgdon was led by Nathan Tuttle with a 104 and Bryan Barton with a 106. Andrew Tuttle and Justin Wilson shot identical 123s on the day.
Ashland and Southern Aroostook were the other teams competing. Sean Montpetit had the Hornets’ low round with a 112, while Hunter Walker paced SA with a 117.
