The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Sept. 12, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The special speaker was Mike Brown, who recently took time off from Pineland Farms for a two-and-a-half-week trip to the West Coast.
On the way, Brown visited the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio, and enjoyed seeing the total eclipse at the top of Rendezvous Mountain in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He apologized for not having his own pictures of the eclipse, but he didn’t want to miss a minute of it.
He continued to the West Coast and visited sites in Idaho, Nevada and Napa Valley, then making stops in San Francisco, Alcatraz and Chinatown.
The real highlight of his California experience was going to Chino Airport for a flight in an L39 Albatross trainer with a professional pilot. He even got to take the stick for awhile and did some rolls, and experienced the pilot’s many maneuvers. From the big smile on Mike’s face in the pictures, he enjoyed it all.
On his way back East, Mike enjoyed visiting Zion National Park, Durango, Silverton and Pike’s Peak. He visited the cliff dwellings in Mesa Verde, Ariz., and saw some gold mines.
Brown said he has told his kids that he is spending their inheritance by ticking things off his bucket list. He plans on enjoying life and not letting experiences pass him by.

Library Happenings
The Walter T.A. Hansen Memorial Library has been “rocking” the scavenger hunt trend with “Our Library Rocks.” Colorfully painted rocks are hidden around town for others to find. Finders are asked to post a picture on the library’s website or on Facebook, and then take the rock to hide somewhere else. Happy hunting.
Toddler Time is on Tuesdays at 10, and the library also is open for a Craft Club on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring your favorite cross stitch piece, knitting, crocheting or other craft to work on in the company of others.
