The soccer season continued with many games last week but will slow down considerably for a couple schools until early October due to the harvest recess.
Easton played Tuesday (against Van Buren) and both the girls and boys teams are now off until Oct. 10, while Washburn will be idle for two weeks following Thursday’s game at Central Aroostook and Monday’s make-up game against Katahdin in Presque Isle. Most of the other local teams play a regular schedule throughout the period.

The Central Aroostook boys and the Ashland girls remain undefeated at the midway point of their regular season schedules. The Fort Fairfield boys have reeled off six consecutive victories, while both PI teams went into Tuesday’s matches at Fort Kent having suffered just one loss.
Summaries of matches played from Sept. 12-18 are as follows:
Hodgdon girls 2, Washburn 1 — Sidney Crane’s second goal of the match, scored in the second half, was the difference as the Hawks (2-2-1) defeated the Beavers (4-4-2) Friday in Hodgdon.
Sam Churchill tallied the Beavers’ goal in the first half. Autumn Ganzel had 15 saves on 16 shots for the Hawks, while Carly Bragg notched 16 saves on 18 shots for Washburn.
Hodgdon boys 2, Washburn 0 — Wyatt Foster scored twice Friday as the Hawks kept the Beavers winless. Michael Sanders saved all six shots he faced for the shutout in goal. Hodgdon’s record improved to 3-2.
Josh Jackson and Beckham Vaughn combined for 10 saves on 19 shots for Washburn (0-10).
Fort Fairfield boys 8, Easton 1 — At Easton, Isaac Cyr had a hat trick, while Wyatt Keegan, Dawson Watson, Alex Sprague, Colin Goshorn and Jesse Helstrom had the other goals as the Tigers won their sixth consecutive game Thursday.
Jared Harvey recorded four assists and Malcolm Langner made six saves in goal for the 7-2 Tigers.
Collin Sotomayor scored for the Bears, now 5-4-1. Kody Carter registered nine saves on the afternoon.
Easton girls 6, Fort Fairfield 4 — The Bears completed their sweep of the season series against the Tigers with Thursday’s victory at Easton behind a huge offensive performance by Isabelle Morin. The senior striker scored five goals, with Emma Lamoreau, Savannah Guess, Lydia Ferris and Summer Guess contributing assists on four of them.
Delia Bonner added the other goal, off a Morin assist, for the 2-6-2 Bears.
Kennedy Bencivenga and Kourtney West tallied a pair of goals each for Fort Fairfield (0-8-1).

Presque Isle boys 1, Caribou 0 — At Caribou, Randon Mortland’s penalty kick three minutes into the second half stood up as the only goal of the match, leading Presque Isle to a 1-0 victory over Caribou in a Class B North battle played at Caribou High School last Wednesday.
The Wildcats have now won two in a row after a home loss to Fort Kent Sept. 7.
“We seemed to be working together much better,” said Presque Isle coach Joe Greaves. “Having new faces in new positions, the guys just have to get a feel for what the other is doing. It seemed like when we lost to Fort Kent, we were all doing our own thing out there, so the biggest thing right now is getting everyone on the same page.”
Jason Dumais turned away nine of 13 shots for PI (3-1) and Noah Hixon made 10 saves on 17 shots for Caribou (2-2).
Katahdin girls 3, Washburn 0 — At Stacyville last Wednesday, Katahdin junior Erin Lake had two unassisted goals and eighth grader Emily Byers had a solo goal, assisted by sophomore Savannah O’hara as the Cougars were victorious.
Senior goalie Natalie Rickards had four saves and freshman Nakita Keim had three saves for the Cougars (2-1-1). Bragg had 10 saves for Washburn.
Katahdin boys 3, Washburn 2 — Garrett Hamm scored what proved to be the go ahead goal with 24 minutes left in the second half as the Cougars edged Washburn at Stacyville last Wednesday. Hamm also had a first-half assist. Bradley Hotham also chipped in with an assist.
Bryce Sinclair and Caleb Giles scored the other two goals for the Cougars (2-2). Tanner Lane made four saves on nine shots.
Devon Maynard and Konner Jordan scored the goals for Washburn, while Jackson made nine saves on 15 shots.
Fort Fairfield boys 2, Ashland 0 — At Fort Fairfield last Tuesday, Jonah Daigle scored a first-half goal and Cyr provided an insurance goal in the second half as the Tigers bested the Hornets. Langner picked up the shutout in goal for the Tigers, who are now 6-2. Steven Bellanceau was solid in net for the 2-4-1 Hornets.
Ashland girls 11, Fort Fairfield 0 — The Hornets remained undefeated and the Tigers stayed winless following the match in Fort Fairfield last Tuesday.
Amber Chasse scored four goals and Shelby Stolze added two to go along with her four assists. Morgan Doughty contributed two goals and an assist, while Jamie Poulin, Willow Hall and Sierra Burby were the other Hornet goal scorers. Megan Cote (two saves on three shots) and the Hornet defense recorded their sixth consecutive shutout and seventh win without a loss.
Emily Everitt and Shantelle Simon shared goalkeeping duties for the Tigers and they combined to save 10 of 33 shots.
