HOULTON, Maine — Interest in the town manager position for Houlton appears to be sky high.
According to Cathy O’Leary, the interim town manager, the community has received 24 applications for the job. The deadline for resumes was Monday, Sept. 18.
The town is searching for a new manager following the resignation of Butch Asselin in July. Asselin served as town manager for the past three years and prior to that was Houlton’s police chief for seven years (2007-2014). He left the town manager post to take a similar job in Oxford. His last day as administrator here was Aug. 15.
Since that time, O’Leary has been performing double-duty as the town clerk and interim manager.
O’Leary said originally she feared there were not going to be many applicants, as the town had only received about 13 resumes as of Sept. 11. In the days leading up to the Sept. 18 deadline, however, the town received several more.
The 24 resumes are about on par with what the town received the last time it was searching for a town manager, she said.
The Houlton Town Council will meet Monday in executive session to review the applicants and decide which candidates they wish to bring in for interviews.
