Houlton Council of Catholic Women meet

The Houlton Council of Catholic Women met Sept. 5, for its monthly meeting. The group gathered at 5:30 in the chapel with a mass for deceased members of the council. Following the mass, President Sue Hardy led with opening prayers, salute to the flag and cross and our hymn.  

Father Kent offered a blessing, followed by a potluck supper. Following the supper, President Sue Hardy conducted the business meeting. We welcomed two new members, Judy Fitzpatrick and Marilee White. Father Kent was welcomed as our new pastor and moderator.

The secretary’s report of June 5 was read by Ethel Mersereau.  Jane Mitchell, treasurer gave the treasurer’s report.  Alta Reardon, corresponding secretary, read a thank you card.  Jane Stile, historian, read some historical information from the 1950’s council meetings.

We discussed our upcoming rummage sale which will be held on October5-7.  We are accepting donations of clothing and miscellaneous items. We will be starting our monthly rosary at Madigan in October. Charlene Tabb will set up a website for the council on a trial basis.

We made donations to Communion/Confirmation flowers for the church and to the School Backpack Program. Monthly committees and chairpersons were updated for the next two years. Two of our members traveled to Waterville in July to attend the Maine Council of Catholic Women meeting.

We will be holding an animal shelter shower in October. President Sue Hardy updated us on the recent meeting of the Parish Council. Birthdays and Anniversaries were noted. Judy Fitzpatrick won the door prize. Prayer intentions were collected, followed by three Hail Mary prayers. Our next meeting will be on Oct 2. All Catholic ladies are invited to attend.
