MSSM boys 3, Van Buren 1 — The visiting Penguins improved to 2-1 Friday as Tobyn Blatt was the offense with all three goals, one coming in the first half and two in the second. Will Perkins and Rudy Ye had assists.

Myles Benica stopped six of 10 shots in goal for MSSM. Matthew Burgess scored off a Brandon Sutulek pass midway through the first half for the only Crusader goal.

Caribou girls 4, John Bapst 1 — For the second time in three games, the Vikings allowed the first goal, but came back to post the win in the home contest played Saturday.

The Vikings are a perfect 7-0 and atop the Class B North Heal Point rankings.

After Grace Philippon put the Crusaders on top 6:22 in, Searra Herbert scored twice and Edie Shea once before halftime, putting the Vikes up 3-1. Herbert added another goal early in the second half to cap the scoring. She now has 17 goals on the season. Alexis Rodriguez picked up a pair of assists, while Amber Moir and Meagan Dube added one each. Jaelynn Doody and Sage Dubay shared goalkeeping duties for Caribou and combined for five saves on 12 shots.

“The girls continue to work hard and generate offense,” said Caribou coach Todd Albert, “and the defense did a good job limiting a good John Bapst team to one goal.”

John Bapst boys 1, Caribou 0 — Viking coach Scott Hunter called it “probably the toughest loss I’ve had to endure.”

Saturday’s home loss saw Caribou’s offense fail to put a shot past Bapst goalkeeper Alec Gagnon, who finished with 17 saves on 22 shots. Hunter said his team generated a consistent offensive attack, but four shots caromed off the goal posts and two others deflected off the crossbar.

With just 1:54 left, Aiden Valley scored for John Bapst following a scramble in front of the net, giving the Crusaders (3-3) the win.

“We were inches away from getting a very decisive win, if not a blowout, and we end up losing 1-0,” Hunter said. “It was very frustrating and their goal left our players in shock at the end.”

Noah Hixon garnered five saves on 12 shots for the Vikings, who fell to 3-4 overall.

Presque Isle girls 3, MDI 1 — The Wildcats bounced back from Tuesday’s tough loss in Fort Kent by beating the Trojans at home Saturday.

The match was tied at 1 at intermission before unanswered goals by Paige McHatten and Madison Michaud in the second half gave PI its fourth win against two losses.

“I thought we played a very good second half and as hot as it was, it was all hands on deck and all 20 players contributed to the victory,” said Wildcat coach Ralph Michaud.

Mackenzie Turner scored in the first half for PI off a Michaud assist before Daisy Granholm tied it for MDI.

Presque Isle boys 5, MDI 2 — Turning in their best offensive output of the season, the Wildcats have now gone 3-0-1 over their last four contests after topping MDI in the Saturday home game.

Senior Griffin Guerrette led the charge with three goals, while Zechariah Morse and Torey Levesque each scored one. Levesque’s goal, which came eight minutes into the game, was a shot from midfield which bounced over the head of MDI goalkeeper Hunter Goodwin and into the net. Guerrette then scored goals four minutes apart, off assists from Morse and Adam Paterson, before Morse made it 4-0 off a Guerrette assist with 5:25 left before intermission.

Griffin Maristany and Simon Davis scored the Trojans’ goals, while Guerrette added his third off a Jack Beaulieu assist to cap PI’s strong offensive showing. Jason Dumais played most of the game in goal before giving way to the backup, Mason Young, for the final eight minutes.

“We wanted to score early and often and we did that,” said PI coach Joe Greaves. “We had been off to a slow start scoring and we needed to get things going, and we showed our offense is capable of being dangerous.”

Central Aroostook boys 10, Southern Aroostook 0 — The Panthers rolled to their ninth consecutive win to begin the season by shutting out the Warriors Saturday in Mars Hill. Central Aroostook girls 2, Southern Aroostook 0 — In what Central Aroostook coach Joe Levesque called a duel between two outstanding goalkeepers, the Panthers avenged an early-season loss to the Warriors in Mars Hill Saturday.

“We dominated time of possession and kept the ball on their end for long periods of time,” Levesque said. “I thought (SA goalkeeper) Sydney Brewer was the main reason they stayed in the game as she made several great saves.”

She was peppered with 26 shots, while her opposite, Caitlyn Harris, also played well in recording the shutout, saving five of nine shots. Kate Levesque put the Panthers on the board with 1:36 left before intermission and Kayla Martin added a second-half goal.

Central Aroostook is now 6-3 and the Warriors are 4-2.

Hodgdon boys 5, East Grand 1 — At Danforth Friday, the Hawks soared to victory over East Grand. Josh Palmer and Dylan Oliver both scored  two goals to lead the Hawks. Oliver also had two assists. Wyatt Foster added a solo goal and an assist, while Nick Sherman also had an assist.
