Pee wee soccer continues in Caribou

CARIBOU, Maine — Games were held in both the World League, for fifth- and sixth-graders, and the Premier League, for grades 3-4, in recent weeks and summaries of some of those matches follow: 

Colombia vs. USA — In a World League match played Sept. 6 indoors at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center, Colombia ended up outscoring Team USA but strong defense by Macie Townsend, Joe Peter Paul and Emmie McIntyre kept the game close. Jaden Picard, Joslyn Grifeth and Pit Pitre scored the goals and Edison Sleeper and Braxton McCrossin recorded assists.

D.C. United vs. Galaxy — In another indoor match played Sept. 6 featuring Premier League squads, Landen Belanger had a hat trick and Elizabeth Robbins and Mason St. Peter starred as goalkeepers for D.C. United. Niko Love supplied excellent defensive play and Lucas Landeen showed much improvement.

Lily McCrossin was excellent in goal for the Galaxy, while the offense was led by Cayden Ala and Owen Corrigan, who each popped in three goals. Lucas Cormier added a pair and Faith Lagasse, Caela Day and Brock Gagnon netted one apiece.

Red Bulls vs. Timbers — Indoor contests continued for the Premier League with many goals scored in this Sept. 6 contest. Declan Miller, Brady Barnes, Brynne Hamilton, Kody Tracy, Levi Cole and Keavan Keenan all got into the scoring act.

Red Bulls vs. Revolution — On Sept. 11, Declan Miller posted a hat trick, while Brady Barnes and Kody Tracy showed plenty of hustle and had strong outings. Mollie Crane played superb defense for the Red Bulls.

Brody Disy and Zay Gagnon each scored goals for the Revolution. Heather Gustin played well on defense and Nic Plourde was able to break through the Red Bulls’ defense for some nice shot attempts.

D.C. United vs. Timbers — Bella Clayton of D.C. United showed toughness after overcoming an injury and teammate Kaleb LeTourneau played well in goal during the Sept. 11 matchup. Landin Spooner turned in a fine defensive outing, Niko Love hustled throughout and Elizabeth Robbins stood out offensively.

The Timbers started off strong with Ben Bouchard scoring the first goal of the game. Carter Carpine and Gage Theriault were lightning fast with excellent field coverage and the Timbers’ Phoebe Butler, Jade Cray, Taylor St. Peter and Hannah Willey-Forbes all had multiple stops and steals. Great goalkeeping by Marshall Hersey and strong defense by Seth Dubay and Trent Hersey also helped the Timbers’ cause.   

Revolution vs. D.C. United — D.C. United utilized excellent passing in the Sept. 13 game. Bella Clayton hustled throughout, Carsen Richards was excellent in goal and on offense with three goals, while teammate Landen Belanger also netted a hat trick.

Gracie Rossignol and Nate Taggart worked hard to try to keep possession for the Revs and Chloe Boma held her ground playing defense.

Galaxy vs. Timbers — Also on Sept. 13, Jeremy Martin II and Lily McCrossin played well in goal for Team Galaxy.  Kadence Hafford played great defense and Cayden Ala, Owen Corrigan and Lucas Cormier paced the offensive attack.

Timbers’ striker Carter Carpine scored a beautiful goal in the first quarter with an assist by Ben Bouchard.  Midfielders Phoebe Butler, Mason St. Peter, Gage Theriault and Hannah Willey-Forbes maintained excellent ball control and field positioning throughout the game. Consistent goalkeeping by Marshall Hersey, who had several stops and great punts to midfield, and tough defense by Jade Cray, Seth Dubay and Trent Hersey led the Timbers against the powerful Galaxy offense.
