The Fort Fairfield Tiger boys’ soccer team will look to avenge one of its two losses when they make the trip to Fort Kent to take on the Warriors at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
Coach John Ala’s team hasn’t lost since the Aug. 27 match against the Warriors in Fort Fairfield, which resulted in a 2-1 defeat. Since then, Fort Fairfield has won seven in a row and is in second place in Class D North. The Warriors, with their 5-1-1 record, are atop the Class C North rankings.
The Fort Fairfield girls, at 1-8-1, meet up against the Warriors in a 5 p.m. matchup. Fort Kent, which won the first meeting 10-0, heads in with a 4-3 record.
In a Class B battle, the Presque Isle girls travel to Ellsworth for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against the Eagles. The Wildcats enter with a 4-2 mark and Ellsworth is 2-5.
After beginning the season with 11 consecutive losses, the Washburn boys finally broke through Monday with a 3-0 victory over the Katahdin Cougars in a match played at the Gehrig T. Johnson Athletic Complex in Presque Isle.
Konner Jordan and Daniel Arce both scored in the final 10 minutes and the Beavers’ took advantage of a Katahdin own goal as the Beavers came out on top. Josh Jackson recorded the shutout in goal. The Cougars are now 2-5.
Four other soccer matches were played and the results are as follows:
Washburn girls 2, Katahdin 1 — At the Gehrig T. Johnson Athletic Complex in Presque Isle, Kassie Farley scored two first-half goals to set the tone for the Beavers’ win over the Cougars. Carly Bragg made five saves on eight shots for 4-5-2 Washburn.
Erin Lake scored 30 seconds into the second half on a penalty kick for Katahdin (2-3-1). Natalie Rickards collected 10 saves on 18 shots.
Presque Isle boys 2, Ellsworth 0 — Zechariah Morse scored 10 minutes into the match and Griffin Guerrette added an insurance goal with 22 minutes to play as the Wildcats defeated the Eagles in a tough road test Monday.
The Wildcats are now 5-1-1 overall and in fifth place in Class B. They have not lost in their last five outings. Jason Dumais picked up his second shutout of the season in goal for Presque Isle.
Ellsworth’s record dropped to 3-5-1.
Hodgdon girls 3, Shead 2 — At Eastport Monday, Sabra Scott had two goals and Emma Drew added one as the Hawks edged Shead. Maddi Merritt had an assist for the Hawks, who improve to 5-3-1 on the season. Shead drops to 3-4.
Hodgdon boys 1, Shead 1 — At Eastport, the Hawks struck early as Wyatt Foster produced a first-half goal off an assist from Dylan Oliver. Shead’s Ethan Lank evened things up in the second-half and neither squad was able to crease the goal line through two overtime periods resulting in the tie.
Michael Sanders made 11 saves in goal for Hodgdon (6-2-1), while C.J. Francis made 22 saves for Shead (4-2-1).
