ASHLAND, Maine – Barbara Ruth Clark, 76, passed away unexpectedly on September 18, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was born September 6, 1941 in Mapleton, a daughter of the late Cecil “Jack” and Bertha (Boyles) Skidgel.
Barb worked for many years at Aroostook Shoe in Presque Isle. After retiring she started babysitting her grandchildren, which let her do what she loved best. She loved nothing better than baking goodies for her family, friends, and helping at the Congregational Church; you never knew when a bag of goodies would be left on your doorstep. Barbara was constantly “on the go” and wanted to cook or help anyone, but she also loved to settle down to read a good book. A huge fan of UCONN Huskies women’s basketball, she rarely missed a game. She was especially proud of all her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments and she was a constant cheerleader at her grandson’s soccer games.
Barbara is survived by: her husband of 61 years, Edward Clark of Ashland; five children, Edward Clark and his wife Debbie of Oakfield, Mark Clark and his wife Nora of, Sheila Dube and her husband Todd, all of Ashland, Susan Clark and her fiancé Clyde Eastman of Masardis, and Tanya Clark of Ashland; her grandchildren, Nick and Eric Clark, Heather Keran, Ashley Clark, Lucas Dube, Logan O’Clair, and Kyler Clark; one great-granddaughter, Addison Keran; three sisters, Norma Rockwell of Old Town, Jean Paradis of Bristol, CT, Shirley Chesnutt of Topsham; a brother, Geoffrey Skidgel of Mapleton; and the family cats and dogs, Lily, Misty, and Cheese and Emmy, Ringo, and Hustler.
A Memorial Service was held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at Union Congregational Church, Sheridan Rd., Ashland, with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. Relatives and friends greeted the family Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial was private and at the convenience of the family.
