About a week ago we received a message about a little abandoned kitten asking if we could take it. Apparently it had been a part of a litter of seven. The mom moved all but two of the kittens. Out of the two that were left behind one had died leaving a tiny little black and white one to fend for himself. We agreed to take the kitten which was approx. two weeks old and still very tiny.
This time we did not have a nursing mom to help us out so the volunteers quickly began doing what they do best caring for the kitten. We named the little kitten “Bug” and got him on a regular feeding schedule every two to three hours.
Even though Bug is tiny in size he has a set of vocal cords and when he is hungry he certainly let us know. Bug is doing really well and is getting bigger every day. He has had a bumpy start in life, but it can only get better from here on out. We are hoping that kitten season is over. At any given time The Ark has had 20 or more kittens which is unusual.
The Ark is now at capacity for cats and kittens. We encourage everyone to work with their respective shelters if you find a stray or abandoned animal. As much as we would like to help them all we have limitations and we are currently at about 60 cats and kittens.
Our adoptions have been good but for every one we adopt out it seems like two more come in. Feeding and vetting 60 cats is a huge financial commitment and taking on more cats would not be in our best interest or the interest of the cats we are currently housing. We are also feeding about 10 strays which are all feral outside the sanctuary. Our goal is to give those cats some kind of temporary shelter for the winter and to get them altered so they can no longer reproduce.
If anyone would like to help feed all of these kitties, donations of food and litter can be dropped at The Hollywood Pet Salon or at the Sanctuary. We are in need of adult cat food and canned pate as well as scoopable litter. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.
We are doing a pillow fundraiser to help raise money. The pillows are on display at The Hollywood Pet Salon and are $20 a piece. We will also be having an open house at the Sanctuary on Oct 7. from 10-2. There will be a silent auction, raffles, a barbecue, bake sale, the chapel will be open and strut your mutt will be the same day as well as a bottle drive. Please join us as we raise additional monies to care for our furbabies. For more information please contact Lorraine at The Hollywood Pet Salon 532-7387.
