PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Several youths have advanced to the northern district Elks Soccer Shoot championships following the Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 competition held Sunday, Sept. 25 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
For the girls, the winner in the under 8-year-old category was McKinley Cronin of Presque Isle. The runner-up was Libby Greenlaw, also of Presque Isle. Reagan Bernard of Mars Hill was the winner in the age 8-9 category and taking second was Mallory Cronin of Presque Isle.
The age 10-11 division winner was Regan Deschene of Presque Isle, with Kacie Marston of Presque Isle recording the second highest score in that category. Eva Calliaris of Easton came out on top in the age 12-13 division, while McKenna Brown of Mapleton the runner-up by a slim margin.
For boys, taking the under 8 years-old division was Brayden Amero of Caribou. Duke Deschene of Presque Isle trailed by only one point to earn the runner-up trophy. Cayden Ala of Fort Fairfield won in the age 8-9 division and Mason Arseneault of Presque Isle was the runner-up.
Max Graves of Presque Isle was first in the 10-11 age group, with Brent Greenlaw of Presque Isle trailing by only one point in finishing second.
There was a tie for first among the 12-13 division, with Dawson Kinney of Presque Isle winning the tie-breaker over Xavier McAtee of Presque Isle, who earned the second-place trophy.
“There was excellent competition in all of the age and gender groups,” according to Alan Harding, the competition director, “with many, very talented kickers in the older age groups.”
Winners advanced to the next round, which will takes place at the Mount Hope Avenue soccer fields in Bangor on Sunday, Oct. 8, beginning at 1 p.m.
“On the basis of the degree of talent exhibited by the kickers at the Presque Isle Elks Lodge Soccer Shoot, I have a great deal of optimism for their success in Bangor,” Harding said.
