Frederick “Fred” G. Jones, 78, of Corry, PA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA after a long battle with heart disease. He was born October 10, 1938 in Caswell Plantation, ME, son of the late Merle and Alice (Bourgoine) Jones of Caribou, ME.
He had three siblings: Elmer (Margie), Harold (Pauline), and Shirley (Greg) McCallan. On November 27, 1961, Fred married Glorianne “Gloria” Lanteigne of Caraquet, New Brunswick, Canada. Together they raised six children: Pete (the late Michelle), Paul (Dana), Steve (Angie), Dave (Amy), Greg (Cris), and Beth (Charlie) Campbell; sixteen grandchildren: Becky, Heather, Michael, Laura, Bruce, Michael, Marcus, Jordan, Cameron, Sidney, Courtney, Matthew, Maria, Andrew, Steve, and Max; and two great-grandchildren.
He graduated from Limestone High School in 1957 and Maine Vocational Technical Institute in 1959.
Her served in the Maine National Guard, was a trained mechanic, and a manager at JC Penney, Firestone, and AutoZone. In his younger days, Fred often worked two jobs to provide for his family, setting an example of hard work and family loyalty.
Fred loved his family, which included all the children, siblings, “in-laws and out-laws.” In 1988, Fred assisted with the task of “rounding up” these loved ones into a family reunion, which has been held across multiple US states and Canada for the last 30 years. On Fred and Gloria’s 50th wedding anniversary, he announced, “Although we may be poor, we are rich and blessed to have such a great family.” He was loved and will be missed by many.
A visitation and mass was held September 14, 2017 at St. Thomas, the Apostle, Catholic Church in Corry, PA. Internment was at St. Thomas Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Corry Manor (attn: Activity Fund) at 640 Worth St., Corry, PA 16407.
