Panthers place ninth in state golf tourney

VASSALBORO, Maine — The Central Aroostook Panthers totaled 432 strokes Saturday, slotting them in a tie for ninth place in the 10-team Class C competition held at Natanis Golf Club.

Mattanawcook placed first with 326 strokes, with Houlton taking second with 340 and George Stevens Academy and St. Dominic’s tying for third with 365.

The Panthers’ top golfer was Shane Stackpole, who carded a 98 to place 26th among the 50 competitors. Tyson Cyr had a 101, good for 28th overall, while Isabelle Wright (116) and Stetson Nicholas (117) were the other scoring golfers. CA’s Taia Tilley also competed.

Central Aroostook, coached by Adam Metzler, qualified for the state tourney by winning the Aroostook League championship held in Mars Hill Sept. 18.
