FORT KENT, Maine — Robert Stedt of New Sweden is among four people selected for inclusion in the UMFK Athletic Hall of Fame.
Lucas Levesque, Damion Stone and Kimika Forbes also have been chosen for the honor, with the ceremony set for 2018 at a yet to be determined date.
Stedt, a 1974 UMFK graduate, will be inducted as a student-athlete. He was a three-year co-captain and four-year starter in soccer for the Bengals and was named to the all-conference team.
He has been a soccer official at the college and high school levels for the past 43 years. He serves as the soccer and basketball officials’ assignor for Aroostook County.
Stedt, who has refereed more than 25 Maine high school state championship matches, also has worked as a basketball official at the collegiate and high school levels and has umpired baseball for 38 years. He serves as meet director for the Class B regional and state wrestling championship meets, as well as the PVC championship meet.
Stedt is a graduate of Caribou High School.
Levesque, a Fort Kent native, left his mark at UMFK over the past 14 years. He directed the Bengal women’s soccer team to four consecutive United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships from 2013 to 2016 and two others in the seven years UMFK has been a part of the USCAA. He had an overall record of 206-36-8.
Levesque also led the women’s basketball team at UMFK for eight seasons, including five NAIA national tournament appearances. His 138 victories are a school record.
Stone, a 2011 graduate, was one of the best defenders ever to wear a UMFK uniform. During his soccer career as a four-year starter for one of the top NAIA teams in the country, he scored 16 goals and had seven assists as a defender, but more importantly helped his team lead the country in shutouts in both 2009 and 2010. In 87 career games, UMFK squads allowed only 42 goals and posted 58 shutouts.
Stone helped lead the Bengals to the NAIA Elite 8 round in 2008, a plateau never before reached. He was named UMFK Athlete of the Year in 2010, where he led the Bengals to their first USCAA national title. Stone also was named Sunrise Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 as well as being selected an NAIA All-America Honorable Mention.
Forbes (2016) is the most internationally decorated women’s player to wear a UMFK Bengal uniform. She won a United States Collegiate Athletic Association national soccer championship in 2013 and posted a USCAA-best 14 wins as the goalkeeper. She allowed only six goals in 14 matches.
In 2012, she allowed only eight goals in 16 matches, (0.58 goals per game) and led the USCAA with nine shutouts. Forbes almost led her home nation of Trinidad & Tobago to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup before it fell to Ecuador.
Forbes earned notoriety in the U.S. when she held powerhouse Team USA, led by Abby Wambach, the leading scorer in women’s international soccer history, to one goal in a 1-0 loss.
