AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Conservation Voters of Augusta has named Sens. Mike Carpenter of Houlton and Troy Jackson of Allagash “Conservation Champions” for supporting the state’s environment, as well as policies that protect public health from toxic chemicals and advance the development and adoption of clean, renewable energy.
“I’m proud of my record supporting conservation efforts and clean energy, as well as my efforts to protect Maine’s clean air and water,” said Carpenter. “Maine’s culture, history and economy are intrinsically connected to our environment and natural resources. Caring for them is an obligation we have not only to the present, but to generations yet to come.”
“As a logger, I’ve spent a lot of times in Maine’s wilderness. I’d dare say that no one who has breathed in the beauty of our forests, mountains, lakes and coast — not to mention the bountiful life they sustain — without devoting their energies to protecting those things that make our home so special,” said Jackson, the Senate Democratic leader. “To me, these votes weren’t a choice. They were a duty.”
The Aroostook County senators join 14 other Democrats and one Republican who earned perfect scores for their votes on conservation, energy efficiency, clean power generation and public health.
