ORONO, Maine — It was an up and down day for Houlton runners at the PVC Championship race last Saturday.
“The course was a difficult and technical trail through hilly woods and around several athletic fields,” Houlton coach Chris Rines said. “The weather seemed favorable for good performances however, two Shiretown racers (Alyssa Abbotoni and Nolan Jacobs) dropped out of their races due to nagging injuries that were only exacerbated by the unforgiving terrain.”
The PVC Championship meet features four races across two classes, B and C (formerly large and small school), of its membership. The classes are combined for both the varsity and junior varsity level of competition, however, the varsity results are separated at the conclusion of the race and the JV results remain combined.
In the girls Class C Race, just one Shire crossed the finish line as freshman standout Emmalyne Drake ran a strong race to finish 15th in 24 minutes, 6.84 seconds. Teammate Lauren Swimm ran well in her 44th place finish (37:38.60) in the JV standings.
The Boys Varsity race had no entrants in it due to members of our team having conflicting obligations this weekend.
In the JV race, Ean Bolstridge finished 37th (25:41.40).
The Shires next meet is the Class C Regional Championship Meet in Belfast at the Troy Howard Middle School Saturday.
