Shoe repair shop — T. M. Brewster, who had been conducting a shoe repair shop on Bridge Street for some time, had bought out the repair shop of Harry Hackett in the Coy Shoe Store, and took possession.
Postmaster’s Convention — Postmaster V. E. Howe went to Washington, D.C., to attend the National Postmaster’s Convention.
New bowling alley — Joe Hedrich’s new bowling alley, the finest in the state, presented a busy appearance. Spectators free.
75 Years Ago – Oct. 15, 1942
Second lieutenant — In an impressive solemn ceremony at the Ordnance Officer Candidate School at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Approximately 225 Officer Candidate students received the hard-earned and highly coveted honor of becoming Second Lieutenants in the Ordnance Department of the United States Army. Among local men graduating in this class was 2nd Lt. Frank Arthur A. Smith Jr., son of Mrs. and Mrs. Frank A. Smith of Presque Isle.
Cross country at PIHS — Coach Keith Thompson announced that Billy Markee, veteran runner, had reported for cross country at PIHS. Markee for the past few years had been an outstanding hill and daler and his presence bound to improve the morale of the team.
50 Years Ago – Oct. 18, 1967
National post — Aubrey W. Briggs, executive manager of the Chamber of Commerce, Presque Isle, was appointed to the public relations committee of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives at the organization’s 53rd annual conference in St. Paul, Minn. As a member of this group, his job was to assist in preparing programs that will interpret to the general public and the business community the role and function of chambers of commerce.
Administrator — Reginald Ireland of Westfield, who had been employed at Cary Memorial Hospital in Caribou as credit manager and supervisor of admissions from 1961 to 1967, had been appointed administrator of Aroostook Health Center at Mars Hill. He replaced Mr. Gerald Jacobs of Fort Fairfield. He was a member of the Maine Hospital Association, Maine Hospital Credit Association (treasurer 1965), Aroostook County Hospital Credit Association (president 1964-1966) and Westfield Budget Committee.

Sirois honored — Personnel Director Jere Sirois was honored by City Council Chairman Dana Lougee for her work as interim city manager following the resignation of a former manager in May. Sirois received a certificate of appreciation signed by all five councilors as well as a business desk lamp.
Donation — Key Bank of Maine donated $1,000 to The Aroostook Medical Center (TAMC) 1992 Annual Fund. Key Bank Regional Vice President Peter Cannan said Key Bank was very supportive of the quality of health care in Aroostook County. The funds help purchase needed medical equipment.
