Garbage truck hits power line in Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A garbage truck driving through Bridgewater suffered a mechanical failure that opened up its trailer cover, which damaged a powerline Wednesday afternoon, according to the Maine State Police.

Around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, a Casella garbage truck was heading north on Route 1 when wind and mechanical failure led to the top cover of the trailer opening and standing up, according to state police.

The open cover added another 7 feet to the height of the trailer, which then hit power lines running across Route 1.

The lines were damaged and it took crews about 2.5 hours to repair them, according to the state police.
