The No. 1 ranked girls’ soccer teams in Class A North and Class B North have a strong connection.
Camden Hills owns the top spot in Class A, while Caribou is in first place in Class B. Both teams begin their playoff runs Tuesday as Camden Hills takes on No. 8 Mt. Blue and Caribou hosts No. 9 Hermon in quarterfinal action.
Camden Hills went 13-0-1 on the regular season and Caribou posted a 13-1 record.
The Camden Hills Windjammers have four contributing team members who attended Caribou schools until just a few years ago. Kaylyn and Kassie Krul and Lexi Heidorn moved in the summer of 2013 and Camryn Langille followed suit three years later.
The Kruls’ parents, Robbie and Tammy, and Langille’s step-father, Dan Williams, left Aroostook County to be involved with The Pitch, a year-round soccer training facility located in Warren. The Heidorn family also moved to that area in 2013.
Many of the Caribou players were instructed by Robbie Krul and Williams through the Dutch Soccer Academy and English Soccer Academy, which held programs in Aroostook County for several years.
Several Vikings still regularly attend DSA summer camps offered at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a few, including Hope Shea and Brooke Moir, have recently played under Robbie Krul as part of the DSA United travel soccer team.
Both Josiah Krul, Kaylyn’s and Kassie’s older brother, and Noah Heidorn, Lexi’s older brother, were members of the Camden Hills boys’ soccer program and graduated last spring.
The Camden Hills girls’ coach, Meredith Messer, also has Aroostook County ties. She is a graduate of Washburn District High School and is the daughter of Dana and Virginia Hews of Crouseville.
