Whoopie pie sale
The Central Aroostook High School Spanish Club is raising funds for a trip to Ecuador in April 2018.
The students are currently taking orders for whoopie pies to be made Nov. 8 and 9. To order pies, contact any club member — Maddie Crouse, Nate Hawksley, Keara McCrum, Morgan Price, Janelle Tweedie or Isabelle Wright — or call the school at 425-2811 and leave a message for Senora Sargent.
Whoopie pies cost $1.75 each, 6 for $10 or 12 for $20. Please place your order as soon as possible so the club can order supplies.
The Club is also collecting cans and bottles to raise funds. To donate, take your items to the Mars Hill Redemption Center and designate the funds for the Spanish Club or call the school at 425-2811.
Rotary Club
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Oct. 17 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Rachel Rice, Presque Isle Rotarian and current Rotary District public image chair. She spoke about strengthening Rotary by increasing our public image. There are a number of people that do not realize what Rotary is and the many things that various clubs do both locally and internationally.
Rotarians are urged to tell others about Rotary and what it means to them. This will help spread news of the work that Rotary does. The local club holds many fundraisers throughout the year to support several groups and projects. Scholarships, Meals on Wheels, Community Cupboard and the Aroostook Health Center are local projects we support. Polio Plus, Wreaths Across America, Sarah’s House of Maine and Aroostook House of Comfort are other projects we fund.
Project GIIVE is an undertaking we are helping with that will bring Eco stoves, Eco toilets and water filters to Guatemala. Several local Rotarians have already traveled to Guatemala to help with this, with more trips planned. There are 13 clubs in the district who have joined together to accomplish this project.
Rotary Clubs can be found in 167 countries around the world. One of the local clubs in Guatemala is working with Rotary on Project GIIVE.
Operation Christmas Child
The challenge is out to the Central Aroostook area to join in the effort to fill 1,000 boxes to send out this year for Operation Christmas Child. Folks are invited to help by either filling a box, buying things to go into boxes or by donating funds to help with the shipping costs of $9 per box, which is the first increase in a number of years. To see a list of suggested items, go to www.samaritanspurse.org/occ.
The drop-off location for this year is 24 Military Road (Route 1) in Blaine, the former Faith Baptist Chapel. Dates and times are Nov. 13-18, 8-10 a.m. and 6-8 p.m.; Nov. 19, 12-2 p.m.; and Nov. 20, 6-8 a.m.
