MARS HILL, Maine – Sonya J. Craig, 60, daughter of the late Robert K. and Dawna J. Simmons passed away on October 17, 2017 after a short illness at the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle. Sonya was born on April 22, 1957 in Presque Isle.
She is survived by her husband Carlton of Mars Hill, her other mother and stepfather, Barbara and Leighton Perkins of Mapleton. Her three sons, Travis Ferris of Mars Hill, Matthew Ferris of Colorado, and Brandon Craig and his wife Katarina of Presque Isle. Her siblings, Linda L. Burton of Auburn, Illinois; Robert K. Simmons, Jr., of Fort Fairfield, and Angela M. Franck and her husband Craig of St. Agatha. Two grandchildren, Taylor and Landen Ferris of Colorado, and many nieces and nephews. Her brothers-in-law Stuart Craig and his wife Cathy, and Bob Craig and his wife Starr. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her sister Robin L. Adams, her brother-in-law Michael Burton and her father and mother-in-law, Bob and Rosalie Craig.
She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1977. Before her illness Sonya was employed as the Deli Manager at the Mars Hill IGA for many years.
She was well known for her endless baking and cleaning skills. She had a passion for animals and rescued many pets. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A committal service was held on Monday, October 23rd at Kings Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill.
