CUMBERLAND, Maine — Fresh off its regional championship, the Caribou girls’ cross country team is gearing up for Saturday’s Class B state title meet at Twin Brook Recreation Area.

Coach Thomas Beckum’s Vikings, who won their first regional crown since 1990, will take to the starting line at 2 p.m.

Abigail Wimmer, Emily Austin, Sarae Greenier, Ashey Violette, Kacie Haney, Katrina Salch and Maren Moir are Caribou’s seven varsity runners.

The Class B Caribou boys and the Presque Isle girls and boys, and the Class C Maine School of Science and Mathematics boys and girls and Greater Houlton Christian Academy boys and girls also qualified as teams by finishing in the top half of the standings at last weekend’s North championships in Belfast.

The Class B boys meet starts at 2:35 p.m. The Class C races start earlier, with the girls going out at 11 a.m. and the boys at 11:35 a.m.

Several individuals from the region also qualified for the Class C state meet. They include Joel Bond of Hodgdon and Jeremy Cook of Houlton for boys and Jordyn Ritchie of Katahdin, Emmalyne Drake of Houlton, Madison Miller of Washburn and Kassandra Farley of Washburn for girls.

The state champions in each of the three divisions and the next 22 finishers as determined by their times in the combined Classes A, B and C will be invited to the New England Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, in Belfast.
