PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center’s third annual CHAIR-ity event begins Friday, Nov. 3, with an opening reception to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. during the First Friday Downtown Art Walk.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served and music provided by Brian and Doug from Common Crossing.
A silent auction on the chairs, each embellished by local artists, will begin Friday, and all chairs will later be sold during the 70th annual Presque Isle Rotary Auction.
“Last year, local artists did an amazing job painting and decorating new wooden mini chairs,” said Dottie Hutchins, Wintergreen’s executive director. “This year, our artists are returning to the original concept of repurposing and redesigning a variety of both large and small chairs, benches, stools, and unique seats of many makes and models.”
The third annual CHAIR-ity chair show will be on display at Wintergreen for the first two weeks of November. The show then goes “on the road” with the 70th annual Presque Isle Rotary Auction. Beginning Nov. 18, CHAIR-ity chairs will be displayed in the new Rotary Auction Store at the Aroostook Centre Mall, located in the former Deb store just off the food court. All chairs will be exclusive to the auction store and will be up for bid through noon on Dec. 17.
“We are excited about this year’s Rotary Auction changes,” said Hutchins. “We love the idea of the auction store and look forward to having our artists’ chairs there for people to see and bid on.”
