CARIBOU, Maine — The owner of a truck accused of abandoning his truck following an accident on Oct. 25 has been charged with failure to report an accident by the quickest means.
After being called about a truck off the road at 1:10 p.m. that day on to Fort Hill in Caribou, Officers Kegan McPherson and Chad Cochran located a 2016 GMC Sierra pickup that had been involved in an accident.
Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan said no other vehicles were involved in the accident, and that the truck, which went off the road and down into a ditch, had to be towed from the scene.
The officers tracked the registered owner of the vehicle, Robert Shaw, 39, of Caribou to a nearby residence owned by Nathan Larson, 37, of Caribou.
They charged and arrested Shaw with failure to report the accident and also arrested Larson for violating a condition of bail related to his not being allowed to consume alcohol.
Gahagan said he is not aware of any other pending charges, but that the officers believe “alcohol was a factor in the accident.”
