CARIBOU, Maine — Maine Treasurer Terry Hayes will be in The County Saturday, Nov. 4, to discuss unclaimed property how residents can learn more.

In a presentation on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 12-4 p.m. at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center, Hayes will highlight what constitutes unclaimed property and the basics of searching state records.

Money and other personal assets may be considered lost or abandoned if the owner cannot be found after a period of time. Examples of unclaimed property might be checking accounts, gift certificates, unpaid wages, refunds or even contents of safety deposit boxes.

According to Rep. Carol McElwee, Maine currently has $230,129,336 in unclaimed property.

Residents can search online by visiting the unclaimed property website at www.maine.gov/upsearch.
