On Oct. 25, Mary Lou Pomeroy and her daughter, Jane Foster, drove down to Island Falls to visit with friends, Riva Hawkes and Patti Hartin. They spent most of the afternoon talking over old times and new before driving back to Caribou before it got too dark, and also enjoyed looking at what was left of the colorful foliage.
The Whittier Congregational Church had a very successful Trash and Treasure sale on Oct. 28, with many people arriving, some from out of town, to browse through the many tables filled with a great assortment of everything. During the morning there were hot coffee and muffins for anyone who needed a break from all the browsing around and deciding what to buy.
Halloween was a busy evening for a pile of young ones who were busy in my neighborhood going from door to door with trick-or-treat bags to be filled with all sorts of goodies. My next door neighbor, Charlene, filled many little bags with homemade cookies, and assorted goodies to give to the trick-or-treaters, and I am sure they were all very happy with all their “loot.”
I am seeing a few more birds now and even had a couple of blue jays this week. They usually are the first around to grab any, or all, of the sunflower seeds that I put in my feeders.
I still have the little chipmunk arriving every afternoon to get his supper and he has gotten almost tame, as he doesn’t seem to dart away when I show up, but doesn’t come too close, either.
There are still no deer in my backyard the past week or so. I had three one evening but that was about 10 days ago and now it is open season on them and they are staying in the woods during the day, I’m sure.
