102 Years Ago – Nov. 18, 1915

Petersen selected — Miss Ellen Petersen, a native of Jemptland and a graduate of Caribou High School and Colby College, had been selected as the missionary representative to foreign lands by the World Wide Guide, consisting of young missionary societies all over this country. Miss Petersen went to China where she had been two years prior to complete her study of the Chinese language.

Commission for Revision meeting — Judge Fessenden and Register of Probate S. S. Thornton, both members of the Commission, were in Portland to attend a meeting of the Commission for Revision of the Probate Rules and Blanks. The other members were Judge John A. Morrell of Androscoggin, Judge Chas. O. Small of Somerset, Register H. B. Ayer of York.

75 Years Ago – Nov. 12, 1942

Harry Parks opened dry cleaning business on State Street — Harry K. Parks opened a dry cleaning pressing shop, known as City Dry Cleaners, in the F. B. Thompson building, formerly occupied by Titcomb’s Radio Service, on East State Street. Mr. Parks purchased the F. Parker Jacques dry cleaning business interests.

Gagnon turned in fine bowling experience — Henry Gagnon stole into the Mooseleuk bowling spotlight by hitting the jackpot with 546 for five strings. That was the week’s highlight. He also garnered high shingle string of 128. By his gilt edge bowling, he proceeded to move into first place with an average of 104.3.

50 Years Ago – Nov. 15, 1967

Mapleton man elected — Russell W. Smith of Mapleton was elected president of the Aroostook County Extension Association at the 49th Annual Meeting of this country-wide organization in Houlton. Smith assumed his duties as key officer of this organization, which supported and sponsored the activities of a staff of professional, full-time University of Maine, Cooperative Extension Service agents and specialists in the county.

25 Years Ago – Nov. 11, 1992

Leadership award — Connie Sandstrom, assistant director and personnel officer of the Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP) received the Distinguished Leadership Award from Dr. George James, director of continuing education at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. The award is given by the National Association of Community Leadership in recognition of exemplary service and commitment to the community. Sandstrom graduated from both Leadership Aroostook and the Community Trustee Program, provided by the university.

New Eagle Scout — Owen McMahon, son of Deirdre and Timothy McMahon of Presque Isle, became Boy Scout Troop 171’s 44th Eagle Scout during a ceremony, Oct. 24. The Eagle Court of Honor was held at the William Haskell Community Center in Presque Isle. Haskell was the troop’s first Eagle Scout in 1932.
