On Wednesday, Nov. 8, Easton hosted their annual Veterans Day assembly. There were over 30 veterans in attendance for the event. Breakfast was served before the program, while a slideshow of many local veterans with connections to the school was played.

Easton Junior-Senior High School’s Holocaust seminar class organized the event. The program included an explanation of the Missing Man Table, a moment of silence for local veterans who had recently passed away, the playing of “Taps,” and a musical selection by the elementary school students.

Easton Senior Private Keagan Kinney was the keynote speaker and spoke on his experience thus far in the National Guard and his appreciation for his country and its veterans.

The school system held a fundraiser for Honor Flight Maine before the event and raised $839 in donations. More money was donated by those in attendance on Wednesday. Veterans Florence Kinney and Bud Umphrey accepted the check on behalf of Honor Flight at the assembly.

PTO News

The Easton PTO would like to thank everyone who attended the Harvest Party on Oct. 28.

The elementary gym was bouncing with activity during the event, where over 136 children had an afternoon filled with bounce houses, games and treats. The “admission” of nonperishables filled the Friends Helping Friends Food Pantry with almost 200 more items.

The PTO is looking toward the Christmas Bazaar to be held Dec. 7 and 8.  This is one of the few fundraisers the PTO uses during the school year.  Each elementary student is given an opportunity to shop for their families, and all items cost $1.

The group is asking for donations of gift bags, bows, and new and gently used itemsfor the bazaar. (Men’s items are always in demand.) Donations can be left at the elementary office during the school day.  Contact them through Facebook or email, pto@eastonschools.org.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming.  Check the school website and PTO Facebook page for dates of availability.  The book fair will be open to the public during the Easton Craft Fair on Dec. 2.

Christmas Craft Fair

The Easton Christmas Craft Fair will be held Dec. 2 at the Easton Elementary School.  We have over 50 vendors this year. The Easton PTO will hold their book fair during this event.  For more information, call Melissa Corbin at 227-4093.
