Edna E. Trask

WESTMORELAND, New Hampshire and EASTON, Maine – Edna E. Trask, 93, died peacefully on November 5, 2017, at Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland, NH. She was born in Easton, Maine, June 7, 1924, daughter of Doris (Stanchfield) and Bernard Thompson.

In 1942, She graduated from Easton High School, then she attended Farmington State Normal School, then taught grades one through eight in a one room school house in her home town until 1946, when she married her high school sweetheart, Harry W. Trask, after his return from WWII.
As an accomplished homemaker, Edna enjoyed using her sewing, baking, teaching and other skills to enrich the life of her family. Often the parent-in-charge when Harry was travelling abroad for business, Edna’s very capable, independent and strong-willed personality carried the family. In addition to her commitments at home, Edna volunteered in scouting, public schools, and the Lyman-Dayton, Maine chapter of Lions Club. A lifelong Red Sox fan, Edna followed them through radio and TV, and loved being at Fenway Park.
Edna showcased her many creative skills through crafting for friends, family, and for sale at local fairs. She will also be remembered for her ability to put up (and put up with) the bounty from Harry’s gardens. Edna couldn’t pass up a yard sale, treasured her years vacationing with Harry in their RV, “Honey”, and she loved Stache, her tuxedo cat, with all her heart.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years and two sons-in-law, Joseph Greene and Vincent Hanscom. She is survived by 4 children, Alan and his wife, Charlotte, of Fort Collins, CO; Sara Perny and her husband, Elliott, of Warrenton, VA; Debra Standley and her husband, George, of Chelmsford, MA, and Donna Hanscom of West Swanzey, NH. She is also remembered with love by 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived her brother-in-law, John Trask and his wife, Nina, of Easton, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Trask, of Virginia.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Woodward Assisted Living Home and Maplewood Nursing Home for the wonderful, compassionate companionship and care during Edna’s last years.
A private service will be held later, before her eventual interment at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
