A horse that ran out onto Route 1 in Littleton Friday night was struck by two vehicles and had to be euthanized, according to the Maine State Police.
At about 7:20 p.m. Friday, Brian McDougal, 68, of New Sweden was driving his 2017 Subaru when the horse ran into the road and hit the passenger side of his car, according to a press release issued by MSP Sgt. Josh Haines.
Shortly after, Geary Bonville, 35, of Presque Isle, also hit the horse with his 1986 Peterbilt trailer truck. Police reported no injuries to the men, who both were wearing seatbelts. The vehicles were damaged but both operators were able to drive them from the scene.
The horse’s owner, who was not identified in the release, had it dispatched by a neighbor because of the injuries it suffered, Haines reported.
Trooper Nick Casavant is the primary investigator and was assisted at the scene by Haines and members of the Houlton Police Department.
