CARIBOU and PRESQUE ISLE — Members of the social action commission at Parish of the Precious Blood, based in Caribou, recently appeared on local television to raise awareness for people struggling to keep their homes warm and to offer their own assistance in the process.
On Nov. 2, representatives from the parish, including pastor David Raymond, appeared on the Heating Homes with Helping Hands Telethon on WAGM-TV in Presque Isle and donated $3,000 to the cause.
The telethon raised money to provide immediate support to local families and seniors who find themselves in emergency situations without heating fuel or other assistance, often in below zero temperatures. The event raised $43,000 in one day.
The social action commission at Parish of the Precious Blood is named Helping Our People Eagerly, or HOPE, and its mission is to raise funds for people in need and to work collaboratively with social service agencies in the County.
The parish serves Presque Isle, Caribou and surrounding communities.
