PORTLAND, Maine — Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland on Wednesday, Nov. 22, issued his 2017 Thanksgiving Day message.
“This is the day to give thanks,” the bishop said via a press release. “We remind ourselves of the bounty of God’s goodness and give thanks for the many gifts we have received. In a special way, as we celebrate the ‘Joy of the Family’ in our diocese, we are grateful for the gifts of marriage and family. When families strive to live generously for each other, living in the light of the Gospel becomes a way of life, not just on Thanksgiving, but all year.
“We also give thanks for our parish communities, families within which we learn the message of Jesus and enrich our lives through sharing the joy of the Gospel. Our families, both domestic and Church, are where love is learned and grows.”
Bishop Deeley concluded, “May your gathering with the special people in your life be a time of blessing and grace. Happy Thanksgiving.”
