Our feral cat shelter is done and well insulated, and yes, we have even had some guests taking advantage of the shelter. We are going to put a game camera inside so we can see who is coming and going.
We cannot thank the people who took on the project of building this shelter enough. They took time out their busy lives to make sure that the kitties living outside the sanctuary will have a place to get in out of the weather and be safe and warm. It was a team effort and a lot of hard work. Thank you, Karen and Gary and Holly and Steve. You gave the kitties the best gift of all this holiday season. For all of those people who brought in styrofoam coolers and plastic totes to help with the project, thank you, and to Judy and Betty, thank you for donating the building materials. It was a labor of love for the homeless and abandoned kitties.
We are getting ready for our big fundraiser, Miracle on Mechanic Street, on Saturday, Dec. 2. It will be from 10-2. We will be selling Christmas trees and wreaths, there will be pictures with Santa, a bake sale and candy sale, and we will also be selling pillows and Christmas stockings. There will also be a giving tree where donations can be dropped off. We are in need of scoopable cat litter, Purina Cat and Kitten Chow and canned pate. You can also check out our Amazon wish list if you would like.
The sanctuary is currently caring for 61 cats inside and approximately 10 others outside. Our volunteers are working diligently to care for them and give them a little extra TLC. At this point we are open approximately two to three days a week so we apologize if we are not open when people visit or call. We ask for your patience and understanding as we continue to build our volunteer base. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Lorraine at 532-7387. In the month of December we will be having a bake sale every weekend right up until Christmas. After Christmas we will be taking the month of January off and will start our regular bake sale schedule in February. If you are looking for particular items at the bake sale, we will be taking special orders, but we need at least 48 hours advance notice.
