SMYRNA, Maine – The towns of Smyrna and Merrill are seeking interested individuals to serve on their school and select boards.
Nomination papers are now available in each community and must be returned to their respective town offices by Jan. 4 in Smyrna and by Jan. 5 in Merrill, according to Candy Nevers, who is town manager for both neighboring communities.
Smyrna has two seats open on its board of selectmen and one spot for a school board representative. All three seats are three-year terms.
Merrill has one three-year term available on the board of selectmen and one three-year term for school board.
To be complete, nomination papers must have no less than 10 signatures and no more than 15 from registered voters in their respective community.
Residents will vote on the candidates at each community’s town meeting. Smyrna’s annual gathering will be held on Monday, March 5, while Merrill’s meeting will be Tuesday, March 6.
“Also, taxes are now due and accruing interest,” Nevers said. “All unpaid taxes will be published in the annual Town Report. We also now have dog licenses available. Residents are asked to please present current rabies vaccination certificates.”
