WESTFIELD, Maine — An 8-year-old girl flagged down help for her seriously injured mother Wednesday night after their car went off the road and crashed into a tree, according to Maine State Police.
Lili Parady, 26, of Fort Fairfield was travelling south on Route 1 in Westfield with her daughter before 9 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the road, colliding with a large tree north of the intersection with Miller Road near the Mars Hill town line, state police reported in a media release.
Parady was seriously injured in the crash and could not get out of the car, and her daughter, who was not named by police, flagged down another driver who called 911.
First responders from the Mars Hill Fire Department arrived on the scene and used hydraulic cutters to remove Parady from her 2009 Toyota Camry.
Both Parady and her daughter were taken to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle by Crown Ambulance. Parady later was flown to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment, while her daughter was treated for minor injuries and released, according to state police.
As of Wednesday evening, Parady was in critical condition at the hospital, according to EMMC supervising nurse Donna Stanley-Kelley.
Police said the cause of the crash “remains under investigation and it is unclear why Parady failed to negotiate the turn.
“It appeared that while her young daughter was secured in the back seat and wearing her seatbelt, Parady was not wearing her seatbelt.”
