ISLAND FALLS, Maine — Members of the Aroostook County Sheriff’s office arrested a 39-year-old Island Falls man Thursday morning and charged him with felony domestic violence assault.
Leslie Phelps was arrested on the felony charge at his home on U.S. Route 2 in Island Falls around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Sheriff Darrell Crandall. The charge was raised to aggravated status due to prior convictions of domestic violence assault.
Both the victim and Phelps reside at the home and both parties were present when Deputy Sheriff Alishia Ledger responded to a call about a domestic disturbance at the residence, Crandall said.
“The victim, who will not be identified, sustained injuries but declined medical treatment,” the sheriff said.
Phelps was taken to the Aroostook County Jail where he will remain until he sees a judge for an initial appearance. If convicted of this Class C offense Phelps faces up to five years in prison.
Lt. Lawrence Goff and the sheriff also responded and assisted Ledger with the investigation and arrest.
