LIMESTONE, Maine — This year’s light parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 3, and carry a “Jingle Bell Rock Theme.”
While the parade is slated to start at 6 p.m., those who come early can catch the “Holiday Tree Lighting and Caroling” at 5:15 p.m. in Rotary Park on Main Street.
Children staying after the parade will have a chance to meet Santa Claus if they get on a bus that will drive through Main Street, and drop them off at the Limestone Community School building where Santa will be present. The bus will pick up youngsters at Al-Bear’s restaurant, Talk of the Town, and Hometown Fuels.
The parade is organized by the Limestone Chamber of Commerce and includes participation from numerous town entities such as the school, recreation,, fire and police departments, as well as several local businesses.
Limestone Chamber of Commerce President Michelle Albert said United Way of Aroostook will be joining the festivities this year, partnering with members of the Limestone Fire Department to collect unwrapped toys along the parade route from anyone who wants to donate.
While the parade usually happens on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the date was rescheduled for Sunday this year so it would not conflict with Presque Isle’s Light Parade.
The change was made to gain more entries for the local parade from “people who would have participated in the one in Presque Isle,” Albert said.
Those interested in learning more about the parade or participating in it can call the Chamber at 325-4371 or pick up entry forms at the town office or Al-Bear’s restaurant on Main Street.
“The parade is small,” Albert said, “but we usually have a nice turnout of spectators, and families taking part in the activities at the school.”
