A weekend trip to Connecticut resulted in two more losses for the University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s basketball team.
Coach Gavin Kane’s Owls are now 0-5 after falling 98-22 to Wesleyan Friday and 86-63 to Valley Forge Saturday in the Courtyard by Marriott Tournament held in Middletown, Connecticut.
The Owls were outscored 20-0 in the opening quarter in the lopsided loss to Wesleyan. In defeat, Rhylee Wright scored eight points and hauled in five rebounds and Emilia Churchill netted six points.
UMPI got off to another slow start Saturday, falling behind 23-8 after a quarter against Valley Forge. Wright had a dominant performance with 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way. Churchill added nine points and five rebounds, while Melissa Reagle added five points, five rebounds and six assists and Kendra Silvers six points and five boards.
The Owls’ next game will be played Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Waterville against Thomas College, beginning at 5 p.m. On Sunday, UMPI is at UM-Farmington for a 2 p.m. game that will serve as the team’s final one until the new year.
