Island Falls notes (week of December 6, 2017)

There were many people traveling before and after Thanksgiving and one of the many was Roger Webb, who traveled on the day before Thanksgiving to visit with his cousin, Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Webb of Newport, for a couple of days before returning home.

Mrs. Susan Prescott traveled to Freeport, where she enjoyed the holiday with her daughter-in-law, Clare, for a day or two before traveling back to Island Falls.

Elinor Savage was a holiday guest of Annette and Sonny (Mait) Stevens here in Island Falls. The weather was good for driving as there was no snow or ice to contend with.

There is not much going on here in our town, so there isn’t a lot to write about; so this column will be absent once in awhile.

I am still seeing quite a few more chickadees and now have at least four nuthatches. They really enjoy the spicy bird food in the feeders and it also keeps out any squirrels that show up occasionally.

I have seen the big gray squirrel loping across my front lawn, looking for any goodie that might be there. Then he climbs up the cedar tree hoping for a stray sunflower seed, but all there is are the spicy seeds that he doesn’t like.

I haven’t seen a deer for a while, but now the hunting season is over maybe they will return once more to visit on my back lawn.
