CARIBOU, Maine — Anastasia Weigle, director of the Caribou Public Library, and Barbara Finlay, Caribou High School librarian, will host an “Hour of Code” at the Caribou Public Library this Saturday, Dec. 9, starting at 10 a.m.
All students are welcome to come to the library to participate in an hour of coding games and learn about computer science. The simple coding games were created for students and adults to experience.
“The Hour of Code is designed to demystify code and show that computer science is not rocket science — anybody can learn the basics,” said Hadi Partovi, founder and CEO of Code.org, which initiated the Hour of Code effort.
The Hour of Code began as a one-hour coding challenge to give students a fun first introduction to computer science and has since become an event for global learning, celebration and awareness event. HourOfCode.com offers hundreds of one-hour activities in over 48 languages for kindergarten and up.
“As librarians, we provide technical support for our computers every day,” said Weigle. “We believe that innovation and technology will be an important component in our students’ future success.”
The program is free and open to all.
