CARIBOU, Maine – Melva Oberg, 91, died on November 27, 2017, in Limestone. She was born in Allagash on December 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Melvin “Mel” and Elizabeth “Belle” (Hafford) McBreairty. She attended the Allagash schools and was a retired health care worker with the Diocesan Human Services Home Health Care for many years.
She was an active member of the Widows Club, the bowling league, and enjoyed aerobic classes and walking at the Caribou Recreation Department.
She was survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Matthew Sleeper of Boston, MA, and Shelly and Jay Thompson of Caribou, her sister, Queenie McBreairty of St. Francis, two brothers, Hilton “Mick” McBreairty of Allagash and Niles McBreairty of Guilford, nine grandchildren, Stacey Karr, Paul “PJ” Espling, Jay Landrigan, Brandi Dufresne, Michelle Daigle, Ronnie Lee Espling, Tyler Sleeper, Sheridan Sleeper and Mallory Willey, and seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She will be fondly remembered by all of the families that she also cared for over the years as a nanny. Mrs. Oberg was predeceased by one daughter, Donna Jonkoff, two sons, Paul and Ronnie Espling, and one brother, Gene “Tunney” McBreairty.
