PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Rev. David W. Cole, 70, of State Street, died Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at his daughters home in Augusta.
He was born in Houlton on March 3, 1947, the son of Melburn and Evelyn (Merrit) Cole.
David graduated from Houlton High School, class of 1965. He joined the U.S. Navy and served two tours of duty in Vietnam before being discharged.
He studied Architecture at the University of Maine, Presque Isle. He owned and operated Cole Shoe Repair in Presque Isle for eight years before being called into the ministry. He attended Texas Bible College and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology.
Rev. Cole pastored in St. Albans, West Virginia for 17 years, and later in Norridgewock for 3 years before his retirement. He was a handyman who enjoyed doing carpentry work, helping family and friends, watching movies and reading books, especially Louis L’Amour.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Sherry Cole; his children; Patrick Cole of Houlton; Echo Manning and her husband Jeffery of Dallas, TX.; Heather Whitman and her husband Dennis of Augusta; David Cole and his wife Sararuth of Augusta; four brothers; James Cole of Houlton, Gary Cole of Washburn, Ralph Cole of Presque Isle and Brian Cole of Houlton; 14 grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, December 1, at the First United Pentecostal Church, 15 Wilson Street, Augusta. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic center Drive, Augusta at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Hospice Unit at the Veterans Administration Hospital, 1 VA Center, Togus, Maine 04330.
