WATERVILLE, Maine — The Thomas Terriers cruised to an 85-48 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s basketball team Wednesday night, keeping the Owls winless on the season.
The Owls trailed by only two points before going on a lengthy scoring drought in the first quarter that would allow the hosts to jump out to a big lead. UMPI went over five minutes without scoring to end the first period, while the Terriers rattled off 17 points during the same period as they grabbed a 28-9 lead.
The UMPI offense picked up from there, but Thomas’s attack proved to be too much for the Owls.
The Terriers converted on 44.8 percent of their shots, including 12 of 24 on 3-pointers, to help gain their third win against five losses.
The Owls’ Brianna Losee scored 12 points to go along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Rhyee Wright also finished with 12 points for UMPI, which now has an 0-6 record.
UMPI travels to Farmington Sunday to take on the UMF Beavers. Game time is 2 p.m.
