EASTON, Maine — A collision between two pickup trucks near the Route 1A and Route 10 intersection in Easton Tuesday morning sent two men to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to the Maine State Police.

Eric St. Laurent, 53, of Presque Isle, was driving a 1987 Dodge pickup truck north with a passenger on Route 1A in Easton before 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning and drifted into the southbound lane, where Randall Nash, 27, of Fort Fairfield, was driving with a passenger in a 2004 GMC pickup, according to MSP Cpl. Chuck Michaud.

“Nash attempted to avoid the crash by driving toward the right shoulder, but St. Laurent’s vehicle struck Nash’s vehicle nearly head on in the southbound lane,” Michaud said in a press release.

It is not clear why St. Laurent’s truck drifted into the other lane and the investigation is ongoing, Michaud said.

Neither of the drivers nor the passengers were wearing seatbelts, according to Michaud.

Nash and St. Laurent were taken to The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle by Crown Ambulance with injuries that were considered serious but not life threatening, the corporal said.

Nash’s passenger, 25-year-old Marci Jerez, also was taken to TAMC by ambulance with less serious injuries, while St. Laurent’s passenger, 43-year-old Justin Hitz, declined to be treated, according to Michaud.
