Bottle Drive

The CAHS Spanish Club is raising funds for a trip to Ecuador in April 2018.  They are collecting cans and bottles to raise funds.  To donate, take your items to the Mars Hill Redemption Center and designate the funds for the Spanish Club or call the school at 425-2811.

Agri-Women

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met Tuesday morning, Dec. 12 at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.  Rotarian Pam Townsend spoke about Maine Agri-Women.  Pam is currently the President of the group, which currently has 45 members.  They are also part of the American Agri-women, which has a membership of around 40,000.

In January 2017, Maine Agri-women started plans for a Women’s Health Conference to be held in April in partnership with the local hospital.  They held their annual meeting in February celebrating 25 years as a group with “Ladies in Ag” who own their own business as speakers.

In March they read “What’s in the Garden” to area school children, sold french fries at the Agri-Business Trade Show and helped a local school start planning a Future Farmers of America program.  April saw a great turnout for the second annual Women’s Health Conference.  They also sold french fries at the Top o’ Maine Trade Show to support their scholarships.

May saw some members do an overnight trip to tour Wreaths Across America Headquarters and Dorr Lobster Company.   In June members helped ready the local Agricultural Museum for the season and made plans for the Maine Agri-women’s float for the Maine Potato Parade as well as getting word out about the “Tater Tot” eating competition.  Scholarships were also presented to several students at various high schools.

During the parade in July, members passed out Frisbees that said “We Love Tater Tots”.  There were 12 participants in the second annual Tater Tot Eating Competition.  July also saw members attend the annual Industry Dinner, where Pam was presented with the Maine Agri-women’s Agri-Woman of the Year award.

August saw members helping with the “Lil Farmers at the Fair” in Presque Isle. They also updated the group’s by-laws and started the process of working with Wreaths Across America to lay wreaths on veterans’ graves in a local cemetery.

September saw members work with a local school on a craft for their annual Harvest Hoedown.  Some members also participated in the local “Potato Pickers Special” several mornings – being able to spread the word on what their group was doing.

October was a month for donations, with money going to a local food kitchen and to a home being built for homeless Veterans in the area.  The group also donated items for Operation Christmas Child as well as shipping costs.

November saw several members attend the national convention in Minnesota, where local Sue McCrum will be ending her six-year “career” with American Agri-women, two vice president, two as president and two as fundraiser.  She will continue as a member of both Maine and American Agri-Women.

Dec. 16 saw members working with veterans’ families to lay wreaths at the Corner Cemetery in Bridgewater.  This project was headed by member Denise Kingsbury.  There were 30 wreaths laid.
