MAPLETON, Maine — Galen K. Smith, 76, passed away on December 12, 2017. He was born in Presque Isle on December 26, 1940.
Galen spent his happiest years growing up and living on the State Road in Mapleton. He had countless friends who either gave him a ride to town, or around the County. His joys included having a front row seat at Presque Isle Wildcats’ basketball games, and meeting his church family and friends at restaurants and local businesses. He was never reluctant to take a piece of candy from anyone’s stash! Galen always remembered to mail his friends and family birthday wishes and an early Christmas card.
Galen is survived by Roberta (Smith) Keirstead, Sydney and Marilee Smith and beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
He was predeceased by Ruby and Millard Smith, Ethel (Smith) Bergman, Floyd and Harvey Smith.
The family is very grateful to the State Road Advent Christian Church community for the love and support showed Galen throughout his life, and to Rising Hill Health Care Facility for all of their care.
Friends and family may call from 11am-12pm on Monday, December 18, 2017 at State Road Advent Christian Church, where a Memorial Service will be held at 12pm, Pastors Greg Moody and Andrew Blackstone officiating. A reception will follow services at the church, interment will be held in the summer.
