The Caribou Middle School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team wrapped up its season Dec. 15, finishing with a 4-7 record.
The Vikings were led offensively by Michael Brigman, who averaged 20 points per game, with Ari Plante also averaging double figures at 10 ppg. Plante led the team in 3-point field goals made with 13, with both Brigman and Alex Levesque netting 12 from long range.
Steve Perreault completed his 37th season as coach of the team.
Summaries of the final five games are as follows:
Fort Kent 42, Caribou 37 — At Fort Kent on Dec. 4, the Vikes had a dry shooting night and struggled to put up points. Perreault said it was a good defensive game for both teams.
Brigman led Caribou in scoring with 10 points. Ryan Austin posted seven, while Levesque and Braydon Willette added six each.
Caribou 55 , Fort Fairfield 32 — On Dec. 5 at Caribou, the home team showcased plenty of offense, spearheaded by tough defense and a strong running game.
Brigman and Plante had 18 and 16 points, respectively, while Reece Cavagnaro tossed in eight. Aaron Oakes led Fort Fairfield with 19 points.
Caribou 63, Mars Hill 33 — The Vikings withstood a 3-point shooting barrage to win the Dec. 8 home game.
Central Aroostook netted eight 3-point field goals, but Brigman was too much with 28 points. Willette had 11, Plante and Cavagnaro six each and Nick Lizotte and Griffen McNeal were excellent on defense.
Presque Isle 58, Caribou 53 — On Dec. 13 at Presque Isle, the Wildcats pulled it out in the fourth quarter by taking advantage of foul trouble by Caribou.
Brigman fouled out after three quarters but still managed 27 points. Plante added eight and Austin tossed in five. McNeal, Cavagnaro and Levesque all had strong defensive outings. Malachi Cummings scored 16 for Presque Isle.
Houlton 57 , Caribou 55 — In the final game played Dec. 15 in Caribou, the Vikings used a man-to-man pressure defense to make it an exciting game throughout, but Houlton was too much in the end.
Brigman again powered the offense with 23 points. Plante contributed 12 and Austin 10. Houlton was led by Isaiah Gentle’s 15 points.
