CARIBOU, Maine — Several areas of Aroostook County received a double dose of snow last weekend, with a storm on Saturday, Dec. 23, and another on Christmas Day.
Tim Duda, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Caribou, said on Tuesday that Saturday’s storm dropped a total of five inches of snow in the Fort Kent area, seven and a half inches in Madawaska, eight to nine inches in Caribou, about six inches in Presque Isle, and only about an inch and a half in Houlton as the rest of the storm “changed over to sleet.”
Duda said the Christmas storm dropped about “an inch or two” of snow in the Fort Kent area, 4.8 inches in Caribou, around seven inches in Presque Isle, and roughly 10 inches of snow in Houlton.
“The big winner in Aroostook County was South Amity,” Duda said referring to snowfall during the Dec. 25 storm. “They had about 13 and a half inches.”
Looking ahead, Duda said there are no big storms coming up this week; however, the entire northern half of the state should be experiencing temperatures of 0-5 degrees above zero and nighttime temperatures ranging from 10-15 degrees below zero.
