CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Public Library received a wonderful year-end Christmas present in the form of a $4000 grant from the Kyler Foundation.
The library was notified this past week that they were one of the libraries selected to receive a grant from the Dorothy Louise Kyler Foundation to be used exclusively on circulating material purchases for the library’s children’s collection. The Dorothy Louise Kyler Foundation is based out of Toledo, Ohio, and gives grants to help fund children’s collections in libraries across the nation.
This generous grant will be used for purchasing new books, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks on a variety of topics. One specific area the children’s librarian will be focusing on is juvenile audiobooks. Currently, it is a small and outdated collection.
“We have many families who enjoy utilizing our audiobooks, but because of our limited number of titles, circulation in this area is dramatically reduced,” said Erin Albers, children’s librarian.
Our community is also seeing a growing population of homeschoolers. The children’s librarian is eager to update its collections for homeschooling families by purchasing current non-fiction materials and other homeschool resources.
The Caribou Public Library is located at 30 High Street in Caribou. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
