NEW LONDON, Connecticut — The University of Maine at Presque Isle men’s basketball team bounced back from a loss to the Coast Guard Academy Friday with a resounding victory over Connecticut College the following afternoon.

The Owls next play in the CanAm Tournament at UMPI Saturday and Sunday against the University of New Brunswick-St. John. Saturday’s game is at 8 p.m. and Sunday’s is at 2 p.m.

Summaries of last weekend’s contests are as follows:

UMPI 74, Connecticut College 60 — Deandre Duncombe scored 19 points and Maurice Harris had 15 points and 13 rebounds to power the Owls to Saturday’s win.

UMPI enjoyed a 21-point lead early in the second half. The Camels got to within 10 points with 12:48 to go but were unable to get any closer. The Owls hit 11 of their 26 3-point field goal attempts in the game. Anthony Chacho and Kevin Collins tallied 12 points each for UMPI, which improved to 5-6.

The Camels came in averaging 77 points per game, but UMPI’s defense rose to the challenge.

“We came out of the gate with great concentration and confidence,” said Owl head coach Dan Kane. “Our bigs played great post defense and limited Connecticut College’s scoring opportunities.”

Coast Guard Academy 76, UMPI 68 — The Owls fell behind by 17 points at halftime and their comeback fell short again Friday.

UMPI trimmed the deficit to three points with 2:53 to play, but Coast Guard was too much down the stretch.
